Re-purposed yankee jar Planter
One way to re-use your empty Yankee Jar is by turning it into a planter or succulent Terrarium. We’ll show you how.
Our last two blogs showed you how to remove the excess candle wax from your Yankee Candle Jar and how to remove the stickers with ease. This blog will help you build a cute little succulent Terrarium with your Yankee jar.
BUILDING A SUCCULENT TERRARIUM / PLANTER
What you’ll need:
- An empty Yankee Candle Jar.
- Gravel or small stones for drainage.
- Small white stones for decoration.
- Succulent cuttings or plants.
- Succulent soil – A good drainage soil
STEP 1:
Fill the bottom of the jar with stones. This is to ensure good drainage so that your succulents do not sit in water. Succulents don’t like over watering and definitely do not like their roots to be submerged in water.
The nice thing about a see-through glass jar is that you can see how wet or dry the soil is.
STEP 2:
Fill the jar with a good Succulent mix soil. You can fill the jar half of the way up and add layers of stones between layers of soil, to make the jar look more interesting. It’s your very own project so feel free to be creative.
For the purpose of this tutorial we simply filled our jar up.
STEP 3:
Place your Succulents into the soil.
STEP 4:
Feed your decorative stones between your succulents for a nice finish.
As simple as that. We used succulents that will eventually creep over the jar and hang to give a pretty show, but you can use any kind. You can even follow the steps above and instead of filling the jar to the top, only fill to the middle of the jar, then plant your succulents mid way so they are viewable through the Jar too… if you prefer that style. The possibilities are endless.
